World No Tobacco Day: No More Should Die Because of Smoking

Today, June 1 is World Tobacco Day.  The world has made huge strides in stopping smoking. Everybody knows the ill effects. The diseases it can cause. The cancers it may bring. But somehow there are still some who still do not get it.

I still see individuals without regard for their fellowmen who smoke inside public utility vehicles as if they own the air we breathe. If one is to smoke, at least he should smoke in the designated area so that others who do not want to smoke will be spared from the “toxic” air. Nobody has to die due to second-hand smoke.

Sadly, I still see doctors or those in the medical field, who continue smoking, not following what they preach.

I hope smoking is not thought of as a symbol for being cool, sophisticated and in command.

There is a prominent warning on each cigarette sold. I am sure a lot know about its ill effects and yet the bad habit continues.

This World No Tobacco Day, let us carry our campaign to stop smoking within our homes. We cannot wait for government to provide the necessary leadership.

No more should die because of tobacco smoking.
